SUMMARY: This position performs advanced and difficult paraprofessional accounting tasks in keeping with financial accounts. This work involves responsibility for independently performing difficult financial transactions, accounts receivable, and record keeping tasks. The work is performed in most instances under a general supervision but employees in this class may make independent decisions in certain individual cases. Supervision is available for consultation on unusual problems and to give detailed instructions on all new assignments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Generates invoices for leases, miscellaneous services and contractual accounts.
- Balances receivable accounts with computer reports.
- Maintains files related to leases and contractual accounts.
- Maintains accounting records.
- Performs record searches to process delinquent utility billing and other receivable accounts.
- Processes delinquent utility billing accounts for lien filing.
- Operates computers and other office machines.
- Inputs data into computer programs.
- Handles general correspondence and telephone inquiries.
- Performs a wide variety of accounting tasks as required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school completion or its equivalent is required. Considerable experience as an accounting clerk is required, some of which shall have involved the performance of moderately difficult tasks and completion of standard high school courses, supplemented by college courses in accounting. Any combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: The applicant must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions, and ability to write legibly.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of modern account-keeping practices.
- Good knowledge of professional accounting practices.
- Ability to follow complex oral and written directions and to prepare fiscal reports.
- Some knowledge of the principles underlying laws and regulations pertaining to City government.
- Ability to get along well with others.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: The employee will work in an office environment, and may sit for extended periods of time. The employee must be able to access file cabinets for filing and retrieval of data. Ability to access, input, and retrieves information from a computer.
