SUMMARY: This is highly responsible administrative work in assisting the City Manager in the performance of managerial duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receives requests and complaints from the public concerning municipal agencies and services, channels the information to appropriate departments, follows up on the corrective actions, and sees that replies to the inquiries are given.
- Confers with department and division heads in working out detailed plans of functions.
- Attends meetings of the City Commission, conferences, and committee and staff meetings in order to provide administrative assistance to the City Manager, and makes suggestions on subjects under discussion.
- Issues directives, memorandums or other instructions or informative media to departments of the city government.
- Supervises or assists in the preparation and coordination of all material for publicity and press releases and the preparation of annual reports.
- Assists City Manager in the Administration of the city government and acts for him/her in his/her absence.
- Required to attend meetings of various boards.
- Conducts periodic review of budget status with department heads, and work programs.
- Manages City issues to Florida Legislature and Congress.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Masters or equivalent experience and graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration or a related field is required. A minimum of five years management experience in a governmental agency is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: The applicant must have the ability to establish and maintain effective public and employee relations. The applicant must also possess ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with officials and employees of the various municipal departments.
REASONING ABILITLY: The applicant must have the ability to write clear, concise reports, memoranda, and letters. Ability to plan and conduct research projects, and must be able to work independently and to exercise good judgment. The applicant must be able to communicate both orally and in writing.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the functions, principles, practices, procedures, and techniques of public administration with particular emphasis in city government.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of management and organization.
- Ability to maintain confidential information. Ability to greet the public in a pleasant manner.
- Considerable knowledge of standard office terminology, procedures, routines and equipment.
- Knowledge and experience with computers, current HRIS and MS Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of Florida governmental office procedures and the State of Florida Sunshine Laws and Open Records policy regulations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: The employee will be required to work inside an office environment.
