SUMMARY: This is a professional position of a specialized technical engineer related nature in a variety of technical tasks. Provides information to the City Engineer/Director of Public Services and other department heads, as needed, for bid preparation, survey information, and project design. Responsible for preparing and maintaining City maps, surveys, and records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the City Engineer in a variety of tasks such as bid preparations, research and survey information.
- Works closely with the Public works and Utilities Department to design and construct projects such as new sewer and water extensions, drainage problems, right-of-way locations and street resurfacing.
- Involved in the projects from conception to completion.
- Makes field inspections.
- Responsible for preparation and maintenance of City maps, surveys and records.
- Assists the Planning Department in providing and updating zoning maps and in providing zoning information and guidelines to developers and the general public.
- Proficient in AutoCAD may be required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED preferably supplemented by engineering or technical drafting courses. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Employee must be able to read and interpret plans, specifications and legal documents relative to public works construction projects. Employee must also be able to communicate both orally and in writing.
REASONING ABILITLY: Employee must also be able to follow complex oral and written instructions.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Good knowledge of CAD mapping and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Good knowledge of legal descriptions of land.
- Ability to work with City departments, contractors, and the general public tactfully.
- Ability to read manuals, blueprints, schematics, maps, operation guides, legal documents, professional journals, instructions, work orders, memos, and letters.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations (addition, subtractions, division, multiplication, fractions).
- Possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: Employee will work inside in an office environment, and may be required to lift up to 45 pounds.
