EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II
Pay Grade: 14

Reports to: Foreman
Hours: 40 per week

SUMMARY:   This position operates heavy duty construction type automotive equipment.  The employee is responsible for safe and efficient operation of heavy construction type equipment entailing considerable manipulative skill to operate effectively.  Due to the nature of heavy duty equipment, there is a factor of responsibility for the safety of other workers connected with the operation of this equipment.  Importance is attached to the fact that this equipment requires constant attention in its operation to protect it from damage.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Operates mower, motor graders, bulldozers, front end loaders, back hoe, trenchers and tractors.
  • Services Gradall.
  • Operates medium or light equipment when not operating heavy duty equipment.  
  • Works as a laborer.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and /or abilities required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  High school graduation or GED is required. Considerable experience in operating the heavier and more complex construction equipment at the level of Equipment Operator and completion of a standard high school course is required.  Applicant must posses a valid motor vehicle license issued by the State of Florida.  A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  The employee must also be able to communicate both orally and in writing.

REASONING ABILITY:  The employee should be able to recognize possible defects and faults in plumbing systems and appliances. The employee must be able to react quickly and correctly in emergencies.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of functions, operating methods and care required of a wide variety of heavy and complex construction equipment, and ability to operate such equipment efficiently and safely.  
  • Thorough knowledge of the hazards and of applicable safety rules and regulations for operating this equipment.
  • Must possess mechanical aptitude, exceptional muscular coordination, and alertness.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA:  The employee works outside in various weather conditions, from heights, on uneven surfaces, with radiant energy, in dusty conditions, and may handle solvents and chemicals.  This position requires walking, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, driving, finger dexterity, depth perception, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
