SPECIAL PROJECTS COORDINATOR
Pay Grade: 21
Dept:   Administrative Services
Exempt:  Yes
Reports to: Assistant City Manager
Hours:  40 per week
Date:  November 2006

SUMMARY:   Under general supervision of the Assistant City Manager, this position coordinates special projects as assigned, reviews and approves special event permits, plans and coordinates City board meetings, and other administrative duties as assigned.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Coordinates special projects as assigned.
  • Reviews and approves special event permits.  
  • Plans and coordinates support for City Boards.
  • Provides research, analysis and reports on various issues and topics.
  • Provides analytical support through research and statistical analysis, advanced data entry and retrieval, report writing, and creative writing.
  • Provides other administrative support as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and /or abilities required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a degree in, Public Administration or Business is required. A minimum of two years experience in public administration or related field is required.  An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training can be substituted for the requirements above.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  The applicant must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as legal documents, contracts, statistical abstracts, and data sheets.  The applicant must also be able to communicate effectively co-workers and the public.

REASONING ABILITLY:  The applicant must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms. The applicant must also be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.





OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
  • Ability to prepare complex reports.
  • Advanced data entry and retrieval.
  • Advanced ability to utilize MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, and MS Publisher.
  • Good professional judgment.
  • Exceptional tact and courtesy.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other City officials, employees and the general public.
  • Thoroughness and dependability.
  • Must be able to attend night meetings on a regular monthly basis.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Strong project management and problem solving skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA:  The employee will work inside an office environment and outside in various weather conditions.
