UTILITY BILLING CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE
Pay Grade: 12

Reports to: UB Cust Serv Super
Hours: 40 per week
Date:  November 2006

SUMMARY:   This position is responsible for turning on and off new water accounts and delinquent water accounts and performing minor maintenance on meters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Turns on or off new water accounts with meter readings.
  • Answers correspondence and telephone inquiries.
  • Turns on or off delinquent water accounts.
  • Verifies current meter readings for the billing cycle.
  • Performs minor maintenance on meters in the course of his duties.
  • Re-sequences meter books.
  • Locates covered meters for other departments or for contractors.
  • Accesses computer records for researching customer files.
  • Cleans and maintains City vehicle.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties including delivering packages to UPS delivery and delivery of bills to post office.
  • Stands in for supervisor in supervisor’s absence.
  • Assist in training employees.
  • Serves as backup to meter reader during illness on vacation.
  • Obtains and completes service orders for daily work.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Sufficient education to read meters accurately, complete simple forms and perform simple manual tasks is required. A high school education is desirable. Any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides these skills is desirable.

REASONING ABILITY:  The applicant must be able to communicate both orally and in writing.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to follow written and oral directions.
  • Ability to locate addresses.
  • Ability to perform simple mechanical tasks.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the public.
  • Through knowledge of methods used in keeping fiscal accounts and records and of office terminology, procedures, routines, and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions.
  • Ability to get along well with others.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of a subordinate.
  • Employee must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may walk, stand, kneel, bend, stoop and drive to complete job task. The employee may work outside in various weather conditions, on uneven surfaces, in with moving vehicles and/or equipment.
