(DeLand, FL) – The DeLand Police Department and Police Chief Jason Umberger are proud to announce the launch of a new website that gives people who use social networks and mobile devices an easier, more effective way to help fight crime and stay informed.
The new delandpd.com website was developed in partnership with CRIMEWATCH Florida and is part of the CRIMEWATCH Network (crimewatchfl.com). This online tool gives the public direct access to public safety-related information happening in their community.
“This new website is the perfect entry point for establishing better police and public partnerships,” said Chief Umberger. “Technology gives us the opportunity to communicate with the public and allows residents to provide tips without the fear of retaliation.”
DeLand Police Department is the first Volusia County-based police department to go live on the CRIMEWATCH Network; a communications platform developed specifically for Florida law enforcement agencies that allows for geographically-targeted information sharing and intelligence gathering.
Local residents are strongly encouraged to visit the website, connect to the police department’s social media sites or download CRIMEWATCH Mobile from the Apple or Android App Store.
· Residents are able to sign up for a free account to receive e-mail alerts regarding crime committed in certain areas. They are also able to:
- Submit a tip to local law enforcement,
- View recent arrests and “most wanted” lists,
- Share information with others through social media
- Get connected with resources and services.
Additionally, the DeLand Police Department is also now on Facebook and Twitter and can be found by searching for @DeLandPD on both social media sites.
