The DeLand Police Department and Chief Edward J. Overman are pleased to announce that applications for the 11th Annual Citizens Police Academy are now being accepted. The 10 week academy offers DeLand area citizens an up close look at the day to day operations of the Police Department. Various topics, demonstrations and hands on exercises are provided. The Academy begins on September 23rd and meets each Thursday until Nov 18th, including a Saturday (TBA) range day. Academy hours each Thursday are 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
The course is open and free to the public. Applications can be picked up at the DeLand Police Department, 219 W. Howry Ave.
Some of the topics to be covered include:
Patrol Operations Fire Arms Demo K-9 Demo
Ride-a-long Program Criminal Inv Drug Inv
Defensive tactics Demo Crime Scene Inv
Seating is limited to 25.
Many of the graduates from the Academy choose to join the Alumni Association or become members of the Department’s Citizens patrol “ Partners In Protection”.
